Specific Medical Legal Experience
Dr Grant's professional credentials for preparing medico-legal reports include:
- Fully registered medical practitioner in the UK since 1981.
- On the GMC Specialist Register in Neurology since 1992.
- Fellow of the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons, Glasgow (1993) and Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh (1996).
- Fully trained and accredited neurologist since 1992, which included training in neurological rehabilitation at the Astley Ainslie Hospital. This is a specialist Neuro-Rehabilitation Centre, which manages post acute care and rehabilitation medicine services for patients with conditions such as stroke, cardiac disease and brain injury.
- In full time NHS consultant neurological practice since 1992
- Chair/member of several standard setting committees in Neurology, Neurosurgery or Neuro-Oncology; including NICE, MRHA. Regular contributor to the specialist literature (>100 peer reviewed articles) and several learned societies (e.g. Assoc British Neurolgists, European Assoc Neuro-Oncology). Actively involved in clinical research (Grants >£750k, supervised several PhD, MD, MSc students) and Co-Ordinating Editor Cochrane Collaboration Neuro-Oncology Group. Actively involved in education to general practitioners, neurologists, neurosurgeons and oncologists. Actively involved in organizations providing professional guidance in clinical neuroscience to the Scottish Government e.g. Board of the Scottish Neurosciences Council and Scottish Medicines Committee and UK government.
- Experience over some 20 years as a professional or expert witness for the Crown, personal injury and clinical negligence cases. I have provided in excess of 80 medical reports on traumatic, vascular, neurological cancer related cases for legal purposes, for lawyers in Scotland, England and Ireland.
Dr Grant can therefore claim to have the expertise in clinical assessment, treatment and management of patients suffering brain, spinal or peripheral nerve conditions at all stages from the acute care to long-term disability, in the organization of services, and in the setting of standards in clinical practice.
